I wrote up a little comment in response to a post on my sister's wordpress blog. The comment is political (I have resisted doing this up to now, but couldn't stop myself), and so now this poor, unfortunate blog has been subjected to political commentary. Well, for what it is worth ...

You must know by now that I am decidedly not a Republican (I can’t stand the party, it’s approach, it’s image, etc.). This, however, does not make me a Democrat or a Liberal. In truth I come closer to Libertarian than other political persuasions (though I would consider myself more of a fiscal conservative than a social conservative).

That said, I watched some of Palin’s speech and I was totally creeped out by her phony words (she’s a politician, no matter how “real” you think she is) and her smug delivery. She seemed disingenuous and snobby from the moment I started watching her speak, though I was more than willing to be indifferent about her as a VP candidate.

Furthermore, I think it is to her discredit that she came on with McCain, her being as conservative as she seems to be, and he being as mainstream and “bipartisan” as he seems to be. Similarly, it is equally to McCain’s discredit for choosing her: In other words, they are both compromising sell-outs, which is to say they are typical politicians.

Another thought: why does it always have to be about Democrats/Liberals reacting to Republicans/Conservatives and vice versa instead of unintelligent narrow-mindedness vs. open-minded intelligence? Did you know that Ron Paul refuses to support John McCain? There’s a guy who sticks to his guns (pun somewhat intended)! Why must we surrender to one of the Big Two Parties for fear that “that other candidate” becomes President (God forbid it to happen!)?

And finally: do you not find it a bit phony and odd that McCain-Palin are talking about “changing” Washington? First of all, they are sounding like Obama when they do that (“can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”?); second of all, what kind of change are they suggesting? Is this an admission of how horrible a President George W. Bush was, or merely that they are going to lead the conservative brigade back to Washington? Aren’t the conservatives interested in scaling back the power that Washington holds? If so, they are awfully eager to get there and start making some changes.

I'd say that's a pretty bang-on replica of the Blessed Mother of God. And think what it means God is saying about chocolate: Immaculate. Not that there was any question in my mind about the divine nature of this "food of the gods" (Theobroma you know).

This trio of phenomenal musicians will be remembered. I'm such a big fan of One Beat that I haven't give their other albums much of a chance. I'll be getting The Woods from the Library soon.

I guessed they might be jaw-dropping in concert so it is too bad they are taking an indefinite splitsville. But guess what?: I've got another video for you. Two actually. See these women rock with the best of them. Their musicianship is unparalleled. Their singing borders on banshee-like, but their rawness is part of their charm.

Coldplay gave us "Clocks", a song I've always liked (come on, everyone has their guilty pleasures; for some it's Skynyrd's "Free Bird"). However, Thom Yorke, not Save-us-Chris-Martin, gets my vote for musical genius of the last decade, and he penned the lovely song "The Clock". If you want to do yourself a favour and see him perform this tune on acoustic guitar, what's holding you back?
